“Roxy taught The Parlotones to surf. For some of us it was our 2nd surf experience. For others it was our 1st, for all of us it was the first time we actually managed to stand up, surf for a while and belly flop. We never left as pro’s but we left addicted to the concept & lifestyle of surfing. Roxy made it seem simple, enjoyable and despite our obvious flaws; equals in the water (even though we clearly weren’t). We even toyed with the notion of leaving BIG bustling Joburg to kick back and surf, but then we remembered we love our city and we love the fact that the allure of the coast now has another feature; when on holiday we can surf… well wobble on the board for a while and then belly flop.”
