Krui travel adventure begins

snappedIf you want To push your travel limits , krui, south sumatera is the place To begin. CT To Singapore ,Sing To Jakarta then To a town named Bandura Lampung. From BL we embarked on a 7hour drive To a town called krui. If our studious driver had not been on such top form we probably would have driven not only through krui but into the next province perhaps. Which I might add was done by another traveler yesterday! The roads we have discovered are a single lane wide with only the fearless that attempt the drive. We have thought it through and bravely hired a car with a driver, more commonly known as a driefer. Our driver a young teenage boy by the name of Santana can speak sidikit sidikit (a little) english , but even the universal shudder of fear is seen through his body language and the glimpse I caught of his eyes in the rear view mirror when a truck flies past us while our two side wheels clutch desperately To the little bit of road we are still on. What fascinates me the most is definatly the use of your hooter, which can be used To say many things from the basic hello, To I’m overtaking you and the other truck in front of you on this blind corner so have a nice day. Then again it could also mean goat, move out the way., And you too kid!

Dagan and I have taken To speaking afrikaans back To the kids as “hello Mister” are the two english words they get taught in school.so shortly after arrival on Tuesday it has been used no less that 500 times a day. No exaggeration!

It is possible that their english is better than my feeble attempt To speak my second language afrikaans. So I have been attempting the local lingo. This seems To leave most locals in a giggle or out right laughter! Hence my evenings are now spent with an indo/english dictionary.

Ingrid seems To have kids drawn To her wherever she goes. With her “cream skin ” she is quite a feature To the locals who only get To hear about westerners let alone see one in real life! She even helped the local trek fishermen haul in their daily quota of fish . I still believe they should have given her share of the catch which did include some tropical tree which was quite a heavy catch. .

Who knows what’s in store for tomorrow!
